MAINTENANCE OF GLASSWARES

   MAINTENANCE OF GLASS WARES

Clean glass wares are important in any analytical work for reliable result. Normally glass wares are kept clean by proper washing. Therefore selection of appropriate cleansing reagent or methods for glassware is very essential.

Generally, detergents are used for cleaning up of glass wares. Detergents are a general cleansing reagent in the laboratory. After detergent is applied, it should be followed by rinsing / cleaning with distilled or deionised water. Thereafter you dry in cabinet or oven.

In some occasions or instances where the stains do not respond to detergents, therefore solutions of an oxidising agent should be used, such as chromic acid, 1% potassium manganate II or mixture of HCl and HNO3.
